Grand Bazaar Istanbul

Turkey is particularly famous as a shopping destination. However, it is not a place where women go to buy Versace dresses, the most famous shopping place in Turkey is Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, dating back to XV century, nowadays being one of the biggest covered bazaars in the world, consisting of 58 covered streets. If you prefer to rent apartment in Istanbul to
staying at a hotel, choose one which is not too close to this place, as it is open from 8.30 in the morning, so just imagine, how loud this place is.
The bazaar is like a separate town unit in the city with its own police station. Going there prepare for a long walk, and don’t rush. The number of goods available there can’t be imagined. You can find here traditional Turkish carpet shops, where the visitors are first offered something to drink and to discuss the carpets, the seller will tell you where do they come from and how are they made. The longer you stay, the higher are your chances to get a bigger discount.
Other goods available on the market include jewelery, spices, fake trendy clothing and leather bags and coats. In the center there is a place where antique items can be found, including some furniture, icons, mirrors and even water pipes. You probably heard a lot about bargaining on Turkish markets and reducing the prices – yes, feel free to communicate and negotiate regarding the prices here, since most of the sellers are the owners or very trusted family members.
After long shopping day you would probably be happy if your holiday apartment Istanbul is located nearby or at least couple of tube stations away, especially if you decided to purchase a carpet and don’t know how to bring it to the opposite part of the city and spent all your cash, so have nothing left for the taxi. Luckily, in such a big city accommodation is not a problem.
